Interviewed by Amjad Vanimal Angela Mraz is a personal trainer, model, and actress. She was born and raised in Colombia, South America. At the age of 19 she moved to the United States where she built her great physique with brutal workouts. She earned her WNBF pro card in mid-2005. She is sponsored by MHP and her long range goal is to situate herself as a knowledgeable and trusted personal trainer. Angela is a perfect example of how a female bodybuilder can be beautiful, feminine, lean and defined. Take a moment to get to know the Angel- Angela Mraz. 1. WNBF Figure Pro, International Fitness Model, Actress and a Personal Trainer. How do you feel when I describe you with all these titles? Great! Thank you so much for the wonderful words! I am honoured to be able to answer all of your questions for this inspirational/motivational magazine. 2. How did you get started in the fitness industry? When I first began training, I remember seeing pictures of fitness models in fitness magazines and loving their muscular physiques. Now, I have incredible respect for all the girls that I compete with because what efforts they are going through to achieve their goals in fitness. 9 years ago I attended to a bodybuilding/figure show and got to the point where people repetitively where asking me “why aren’t you competing? I finally got up enough courage to prepare myself with the help of my husband for my first show; I trained seriously hard, learn proper nutrition and training techniques and got my stage presence and quarter turns with the help of my friend Mary. It all paid off not only when I took first place in my first show, but my second, third and fourth show. It didn’t come easy, it was hard work! 3. What’s your daily routine like?
A typical day for me – At this time I am preparing for a competition in November my day goes as follows: wake up at 4:20am have a cup of coffee, take my supplements TRAC, ANADROX and go to the gym, I usually get to the gym at 5:00am and start my workout routine by doing 40 minutes of cardio (treadmill or stair master cardio machines) after doing cardio I do what ever body part I have schedule to do that day. My weight lifting workout is usually: 4. What’s your diet like at the moment?
As I mentioned before I am preparing for the World’s in November so my diet is very strict right now. I usually have five to six small meals per day. Certainly this in itself can be challenging and it does require planning the night before but I try to enjoy every meal I have so it doesn’t become a sacrifice 5. I gather that Angela became a personal trainer to share the secret of your success, how you trained, what you ate etc. with others. So I presume a personal trainer should be an open book for other peole.. Absolutely, I grew up with a dream, but that dream wasn’t to become a fitness star or a personal trainer. My dream was something many of us take for granted. Born and raised in Colombia South America, my dream was to travel to the United States, “the land of opportunity” Living in America and being able to help others change their lives by eating healthy, exercising; motivating them to feel good and look good is an amazing and fascinating experience for me, when I see people changing their bodies and increasing the quality of their lives it makes me feel great! I appreciate and take advantage of everything that I learn from others and from my own experiences as a natural figure competitor and try to teach and promote healthy life style to as many people as I can! 6. Now you are sponsored by MHP. How do you see the support and encouragement of such a big endeavour? I am very proud to be part of such an amazing supplement company, I was introduce to Gerard Dente when I first started my carrier as Figure competitor 8 years ago and since then I have been part of Team MHP and now as you know I work for the company as an International sales representative. I love my job, I enjoy working for MHP, everyday is a new learning experience for me and enjoy working with many people from different parts of the world! I thank MHP for all the support that they have given me all this years to become a successful Figure competitor! 7. What do you feel is your biggest achievement in your career so far? Being 3x World’s Natural Figure Champion is very important to me and one of my biggest achievements in my carrier as a Figure competitor! Drug-free promotes an event playing field where competition requires tremendous effort and dedication to be successful. I believe that with dedication and commitment you can reach your goals and achieve anything you want in life! My goal this year will be to bring home the Ms Exercise World’s trophy this year again! 8. Any disappointing moments? If so, how did you tackle that situation? I have to be honest….preparing for a competition requires a lot of commitment and dedication and there are moment when I feel that I can’t keep up with the rigorous training and dieting but competing for me is more than a “ones a year commitment” is a “challenge” - transforming my body to that level of perfection is a lot of work but I do my best to enjoy the transformation by staying motivated and focused on always thinking positive no matter what comes my way. To me a bad experience is a learning experience! 9. I have read somewhere that you love to do new and exciting things, and do stuff that’s not common and everyday. What do you mean by stuff that’s not common? I am not sure what you are referring to but at this time of my life I am dedicating most of my free time to my family and making sure that I continue to be successful in life and make all my dreams come true! I am always looking for new and exciting things to do specially they are fitness/health related! 10. What’s your inspiration for having such a dazzling confidence and kind of commitment to yourself and for others? Feeling healthy, in shape, looking at myself in the mirror and loving what I see is my inspiration! Being able to run 3 miles a day inspires me, lifting 25, 30, 40lbs dumbbells over my head inspires me….I believe that if you are happy with yourself you will be able to express and make others happy! What inspires me is the fact that I am able be in shape and maintain fitness perfection 365 days of the year! I credit my trademark conditioning to the consistency in my diet, strict training regimen and supplementation. And that is what I want to teach others! 11. There are a number of misinformed females who are still scared to exercise with dumbbells. What’s your comment on it? I know! In fact I have a few clients that were so afraid of working out with weights because they thought that weight lifting was going to make them big and bulky but guess what? I proofed to them that weight lifting is one of the best ways to lose body fat, increase your strength, tone your body, have sexy lean muscle and now their workout sessions are mostly weight lifting, shaping their shoulders, legs , glutes, abs etc. Is amazing how you can change your body with a pair of dumbbells. 12. Being a part of MHP you can certainly feel the pulse of international supplement market. How do you see the potential of Middle East Market? I believe Sports Nutrition is the trendiest and fastest growing category in this industry and MHP has already proven to be one of the top 5 Sports Nutrition supplements in the US and is also becoming one of the most popular brands in the Middle East. I am very excited to help service this region because I believe that there is a real potential to grow that market considerably by educating, promoting and showing consumers the importance of taking supplements to take their fitness goals to the next level. 13. What do you want to be in future? Do you have any particular plan to accomplish that dream? Yes – I still have many goals and dreams to accomplish. One many of them is to open a Fitness Boutique! – a place for woman to go and learn how to be beautiful inside and out, learn to follow an exercise program that will change their lives for ever, learn to be confident and comfortable with their own bodies. I want to continue motivating and encouraging people to live healthy and to take care of their bodies. To me living a healthy life style makes me happy and I believe that our world would become a much pleasant place to live if we could all dedicate 45 minutes of our busy schedules to exercise and to take care of our bodies by eating healthy and taking the necessary supplements to keep our energy up and running all day long! 14. How do you spend your leisure time? With my family! During the week my free time is very limited and I don’t get to spend a lot of time with them. So going to the movies is one of my favored things to do, taking my dogs for a walk with my son, reading, watching my son play with his friends,….I enjoy every moment I can with him and my husband! 15. What message do you have for people who want to follow in your foot steps? Consistent and productive exercise is nothing less than - hard work. It's all about commitment, adhering to a schedule, planning daily exercises and diets, executing all of it and finally coming to grips with the fact that changes to your body are normally slow and subtle. Hence lies the need for motivation. Sometimes, a whole lot of it. For me the biggest pool of motivation is the inner and outward feelings of living a healthy lifestyle. Eating unhealthy makes you feel sluggish. Not exercising, which is a great reliever of stress, doesn't allow for a good night's sleep. There are so many great reasons to exercise regularly, so the examples could go on and on. You are not alone. We have all been there - burnt out, fed up, tired, hurt, or what ever you want to call it. There are hundreds of obstacles and set backs that lie in the wait. Keep your chin up and stay the course - you will be successful!
Get your hands on a fitness related magazine. I constantly find gallons of motivation by looking at my competition in the magazines. 16.
